The Takeover

Imagine a world devoid of humans due to an exodus or after some disastrous event. A world where life restarts and renews at her own pace and not under the constant intervention of the human touch. Left to its own, nature always finds a way to restimulate herself and grow. That's what we wanted to depict in this piece.

The scene shows the Center for the Book - a prominent landmark in Cape Town, South Africa - in its abandoned and damaged state being overrun by foliage and greenery. The mood is melancholic and dystopian except for the inclusion of mother nature and the ray of light that penetrates both cloud and concrete. It symbolises hope, rebirth and a brighter tomorrow.
